We have an agreement with BMG
distribution, one of the most proactive distributors in the UK, servicing several
thousand independent record retailers as well as the multiples such as Woolworth, Our
Price, HMV, Smiths, Boots and Menzies, and the important Tower and Virgin outlets.
All the majors are linked to their computer system that
will automatically re-stock items sold through the retailers. As part of our arrangement
with BMG, we have access to their telesales department, whose responsibility it is to make
all the retailers aware that your product is available. That is not to say that they
guarantee to sell stock to the retailers, no one can make that promise, but the shops are
informed about the release of your material.
The overall percentage that will be deducted from sales
of your UK product will be 32%, thereby leaving the balance of 68% payable to you. These
percentages are based on the purchase price to dealers, less any discounts that are
required to be given to the multiple stores.
One copy of your finished master recording, with your
permission, will be sent by us to each of the "one stops," export and import
companies and wholesalers. This involves no more than 15 copies of the finished product.
Please remember that the music industry in the UK is
very much a 'sale or return' industry. Unless the general public ask for your recordings,
it cannot be sold from the retailers' shelves.
